Back from battlefields and family

A very happy me in front of General Lee's Memorial at Gettysburg.
I just got back from vacation yesterday hence the lack of posts(not that I'm a prolific poster anyhow) and lack of comments on other blogs which I'll try and catch up on as soon as I can.

My vacation was fantastic! It consisted of two vacations the first in Pennsylvania/Maryland (battlefields) and the second in Minnesota(family). Other then seeing family which was of course a wonderful joyous occasion in itself  I also got a chance to visit the holy grail of ACW enthusiasts  that being the Gettysburg battlefield! If that wasn't enough I also visited Antietam(Sharpsburg) and Brandywine battlefields as well!! To say I was on cloud nine would be an understatement!

It's too many pictures and thoughts to put into one post so I'll be breaking them down into several posts until finished. I may do them close together or spread them out depending on energy levels.

It's great to be back and I'm super charged to get painting as one would imagine!:-)

A view from the Little Roundtop behind Gen. Warren's Statue again at Gettysburg.
My lovely wife and daughter on Burnside's bridge at Antietam.
Washington's HQ at Brandywine.

  1. Well if your enthusiasm and the first pics are anything to go by then your vacation really must have been absolutely gorgeous. It's good to have you back in Germany though as gaming here virtualy came to a stand still while you were wandering old battlefields.

  3. It must be hard not to feel like a Virginian when standing beneath such an imposing memorial. I simply have to get my act together and go see this place! Wonderful pictures Christopher! Nice to see your family supporting your interest in the battlefields. Now, you owe your wife 2.000 hrs of shoe shopping instead :0)

    1. Indeed Lee's memorial is very impressive and does make you hear the call of Virginia. My family is very supportive of my hobby, but wisely opted out on the battlefields in favour of things like Hershey Park and joined me only on Burnside's bridge and let daddy tramp up and down the hot battlefields.:-)

  5. I'm delighted to see you were on vacation. Your family must have been delighted to see you and yours. Did you find it a bit weird to be back 'Stateside'? Great shots of the battlefields and it looks like you had some great weather as well. A well-deserved vacation!

  10. Looks awesome Christopher. I am thinking of a trip over that way next year (all going well). Plan on going to Gettysburg and Sharpsburg. Brandywine sounds good too will have to include it. Any others worth a look near by?

    1. Thank you Rodger and it was utterly awesome and you must go! Well, I only visited the battlefields mentioned, but there are several other ones nearby that I'm sure are worth looking at. Just punch in battlefields first and then after that forts in Pennsylvania and Maryland and you will see quite a few listings. However, Gettysburg alone will take days to see.;-)
