Impetus Magazine

Lorenzo at Impetus is thinking of doing an Impetus magazine probably in full color pdf to PC format and I would very much like to see this happen.
He is thinking of including in it historical background information which will include army lists, tactics, painting/assembling of Units, event reports, tutorials, clarifications plus probably more.
If like me you would also like to see this happen then visit the forum underneath this topic and voice your support!

For me Angus McBrides Vikings celebrating comes to mind at this possibility!:-)

  1. Maybe I'm just an (not too) old grumbler, but I cannot follow your call to arms for just another magazine.

On the one hand there's already plenty of stuff in Dadi & Piombo for those interested in Impetus, other magazines slowly taking up the rules as well.
On the other hand we have Extra Impetus for anything "official", and personally I'm not interested in dispersing supplements to the rules.

So why open up another publication format?

Furthermore I'm not convinced yet that it will be cost efficient. There seems to be not much money in the wargaming magazine business. At least from a non-Italian/Anglophone perspective, the more since there are already people mourning about language issues both in D&P and Impetus.

Therefore, apart from my sympathy with anyone trying to start something in this hobby (and so selfmade-man Lorenzo in particular), I'm not in. Sorry.

Go ahead, tear me to pieces now. ;-)

    Cheers

  2. SG,

I hope your aware that he is looking to do this in a PDF to PC/Tablet format which is both cheaper, but also easily accessible and readily available.
He is looking for contributors and I personally welcome a magazine dedicated to Impetus only.

    Cheers

  3. Hard to comment from someone who isn;t a big player of this type of game but I wish them all the best.

  4. Christopher, yes, I'm aware of that. However, being now and then involved in this business, I can tell that timbering a decent master for print or online/PDF publication makes no difference in time and effort. Therefore it has to be cost-efficient as well, if it's not meant to be a purely fan-based format.

Also, there's still the question why the existent publications aren't sufficient anymore. If Lorenzo wants more content, why not enhance Extra Impetus or Dadi & Piombo? Both are (or could be) available as PDFs, too.

Again, don't get me wrong, I do support Impetus in any way I can. I simply don't get the benefit of just another hobby magazine in this market situation.

    Cheers

  5. Hi SG,

You have valid points, but I'll give it shot.

I can only speculate, but I think Dadi & Piombo is just less recognizable.

As to why not just add more content to extra Impetus It's probably perhaps they would get to large and he want's to keep the army lists separate from extra content which several companies already do.

I think he's probably thinking about putting extra Impetus in pdf form as well although I'm not sure.

Like you, whatever he decides to do I'll support by contributions and subscription as this game is taking over as my favourite game for ancient/mediaeval wargaming.

    Cheers
