How do you like your blogs

I prefer a modeler to have just one blog with labels for all the different subjects they work on as I find this easier then jumping around blogs to see everything they do.
I also find it's easier for myself as well in posting my material.
I understand why folks like to separate their blogs by subjects as I've been tempted myself, but going back to what I said I like viewing one blog with labels as it's easier and with this in mind I went with just one blog. It's just easier for both in my view.
What is your opinion?

Cheers
Christopher

  1. I don't mind one way or the other, as once I "follow" a blog through Blogger, it organizes them all for me.

Personally, I fall in-between. I use tags, as you say, to sort different projects, armies and periods, plus subjects (battle reports, painting, events, etc.)

When I came up with the idea of doing step-by-step painting projects ("Paint Machine") to try to record, improve & speed up my painting, though, I decided to keep that separate so that my regular entries wouldn't interrupt the flow those projects. I figured this would also give anyone who might be interested in just one but not the other, to choose which (if any) to follow without cluttering things up.

That's about the limit on my splitting up blogs, as far as I can foresee.

    Just for reference...

  2. A single combined blog works for me.

I was just playfully kidding you about your fantasy figure post. No harm intended.

  3. I know AJ.:-) It nonetheless raised the question in my mind and sparked some curiosity on multiple subjects in blogs as some other bloggers have struggled with the issue of having more then one blog and so I thought I would ask.
Thanks for the idea even if it was indirect.:-)

  5. AJ,

I started blogging before Blogger had Labels . . . so I have a number (too many) of blogs.

I have my "main" blog which covers a bit of everything . . . but I also have some separate blogs covering specific periods.

One reason that I have for separate blogs is that I have two warring 18th century "Imagi-Nations" . . . and I like to have separate blogs for them so that they each have their own "point of view".

While I certainly do not object to the "only one blog" concept, I do find that the "vacation" and "family reunion" type of posts (which are perfectly legitimate, of course) are not what I want to spend my time reading.

To each his own . . . and may ALL bloggers win.

  7. I maintain 3 blogs.
    1) Our Club blog (that I feel needs to be seperate.
    2) My napoleonic blog
    3) modelling and other stuff blog

I just wanted to keep the Naps seperate as it is my main interest at the moment.

Also I have a completely different bunch of friends who are interested in WW2 1/72 and 1/76 scale modelling and have no interest in wargaming (but I will be throwing all my other bits and pieces in there).

I would like to only have the 2 blogs though.

  8. I hear you. I'm at fault for not labellimg my topics even though I just have one.

I'll have to spend sometime on this in the future.

    Ciao,

  9. When shifted focus from a pure AWI blog to more general wargaming I was tempted to go the separate route. In the end I just renamed it and redesigned it. I still feel a little guilty when I see other blogs linking to it for its AWI content and know that they'll have to wade back a fair bit to find AWI content.

Also, my projects don't move fast enough to support several blogs!

  10. "Also, my projects don't move fast enough to support several blogs!"

    I know what you mean!:-)

Still, even without that I prefer everything on one blog. Both reading and writing them as long as labels are there.

So,far I like all the different opinions coming in.:-)

  11. I thought long and hard about this when I began to divert attention from the AWI to the First Carlist War. I think there is something neat, tidy and focussed about niche blogs that concentrate on one period - they are good one-stop resources for their particular periods. That said, there are only so many blogs that you can have time to review each day and I decided that readers would only really want to visit one blog and would quickly bypass the period blogs that didn't interest them.

It's a shame in a way as it shows hoe the blog can rule the blogger, rather than the other way around. I think Legatus Hedlius does very well to mange one blog for each of his periods, but the flip side is that many haven't been updated for over a year. Ultimately, blogs need regular updates to survive, I think.

  12. That's pretty much my line thinking as well Giles.

  13. I am the type of Blogger you're talking about!

I do know how a lot of readers tend to only like a certain period and if a blog jumps around it can be a little frustrating. One blog I followed had a great bit on the ECW but hasn't done a post on it for over a year (now having to read stuff I'm not interested in).

I currently have three blogs - one for my Romans and their enemies, one for my Macedonians and Greeks and another for all my projects which involve Muskets and rifles (AWI, ECW and the Sudan). Personally, I think this is probably best if you're a wargamer. You tend to be an ancients gamer or a horse and musket type of guy. So how I've done it, it's hopefully easiest.

As 023 says, if you follow a blog, it's then out of mind and Blogger organises it for you. You can just read the updates you want to!

    Consul.

  14. First of all I'd like to say what a fantastic resource your blog is.

I use labels extensively on all my blogs. My main fantasy battle wargaming blog just uses labels to separate content. I use labels on my Battle Reports blog a bit more intelligently and they're integral to the blog design to allow the user to follow the kind of battle reports they're most interested in.
