Continuing on with my Dux B. project and my third unit of Duguth warriors. I added a standard to this unit even though in Dux B. they mean nothing and confer no benefits, but I like standards in my armies as I think they add some flair to it. Once again the figures are from the super Musketeer miniatures line and the shields and Banner are the great LBM transfers with some Foundry ones mixed in. Weathering is once again from my go to MIG pigments for these effects.
Hamarolf acquired some more followers in the form of some slingers. I used some nice Crusader El Cid ones as I think they are close enough to Saxon to pass the muster. Like my entire army I placed them easy to use movement trays which speeds up play and I think makes them look a bit more attractive.
Next up are the tough guys in the form of Gedriht warriors which are a mix of professional warriors, personal family and household guard so stay tuned!

Awesome paintwork again, my friend. Both units are up to your usual fantastic standard and I can't wait to see them in the flesh. As you know I especially like your basing and will give it a go on the next figures to be painted for Dark Age or Ancients gaming. By the way, do you drybrush the static grass?
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Nick! I'm hoping the next time we play Dux B. my army will be fully Saxon with no Viking proxies. I only dry brush the bushes, but not the grass. However, it's worth doing if you want to dry the grass out, but since these are in Central and Northern Europe I don't do so.

Good to know. I normally drybrush the static grass as it looks too artificial to me. On the other hand it's been a while I used it as I prefer tufts and flock at the moment.
DeleteThe key to static grass is not to over do it make sure enough gravel shows in between. The only flock I like on bases is the fine flock and this is usually for 15mm and less except for terrain like bushes and trees where I use a larger kind. Tufts are great and I use those extensively on all things.

Amazing paint and bases you have created. What size are your bases?

Thank you very much Gary. The individual figures are on 25mm metal washers. The 9 slot sabot base is 90mm x 90mm and 4 slot skirmish base is 120mm x 40mm. All sabot slots are about 26+mm to give a bit of space to make figure removal easier.

Thank you for you quick reply. I'm using 1 inch (25.4) metal washers. That is causing problems for me with the bases I have. I like the idea of the 26+mm slot. This could be my fix.
