German Light Artillery/Charleston Artillery Battery(Confederate)
Adding more to my ACW collection. This is a confederate North Carolinian 12pound smooth bore cannon of the German Light Artillery or otherwise known as the Charleston Artillery Battery from Hood's division at Gettysburg. It was commanded by Cpt William K. Bachman.
Memorable battles included:
Seven Days Battles VA (25 JUN - 1 JUL 1862)
2nd Bull Run VA (28 - 30 AUG 1862)
South Mountain VA (14 SEP 1862)
Antietam VA (17 SEP 1862)
Fredericksburg VA (13 DEC 1862)
Gettysburg PA (1-3 JUL 1863)
Tullifinny Station (9 DEC 1864)
Carolinas Campaign SC (FEB - APR 1865)
I used a mix of browns and greys to give a campaign feel, but still kept the red in the uniforms as that was the colour of artillery for both sides. I've seen several colours used for gun carriages, but I always liked the green so went with that. The figures are from Perry and while they do require some clean up are they are still very nice sculpts as one expects from the twins.
Thanks for viewing!

Lovely little 'diorama' Chris, well done.
ReplyDeleteGreat job ! Congratulations ! I like your Signal Station too ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat set of figures. The gun barrel is one of the most authentic finishes I've seen on a model. What paints/colours do you use to get that effect?
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Matt
Thank you Matt and I used Foundry Bronze barrel.

This is some top-notch work Christopher. The paintjob is fantastic-the colour palette and the way you brought up the highlights-excellent. You've done a terrific job with the basing as well. The bits of colour you added with the yellow and then those white flowers really make this stand out.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Anne!

Sorry, Chris, I missed this. Beautiful painting, as we all expect now! Also, I really do like your basing - the extra effort and detail really works. One of the things I like about gaming the AWI and ACW is that I feel you can create a bright, "meadow" look on bases that just doesn't work so well with European campaigns. Maybe it's just me idea of what the US looks like!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Giles
Thank you Giles! Yes, it's true in many parts of the US a certain bright meadow look is often seen or maybe it's the large open spaces that give this impression.

Sorry for missing this earlier, Christopher. Great painting as always; the composition is very nice too. Best, Dean
ReplyDeleteThank you Dean and no problem it's hard to keep up with what everyone is doing all the time as quite a few end up falling through the cracks on me as well.:-)
