Lasalle
Just played my first game of Lasalle(Napoleonic wargaming) Saturday night using our clubs old 1/72ndNap stuff. We played the Liberation period with me controlling the French and my friend the Prussians. I got my can kicked through a combination of bad rolls, bad tactics and a serious ineptitude in using my artillery advantage and so my verdict is..... I really, really enjoyed the rules! Easy movement, interesting change up in game sequence and combat resolutions generally being quick and decisive..........just how I like it!!
The result of all of this of course will be me placing a very large order to the Perry twins for my French army to support the Emperor.
Vive l'Empereur!
In the meantime back to my Airborne and F&F ACW.
Honour Rule Set
Another project Christopher,
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it's Naps. Look forward to seeing how you tackle the Perry figures.
Up until now I have managed to resist the temptation to buy Perry (or Victrix) 28mm plastic Naps.
Very tempted by the Victrix early Russians.
I know, I'm hopeless! I'll be using Army painter with highlights of course on such a large project.
ReplyDeleteWhat has always puzzled me is why Perry, Victrix and Warlord didn't follow the French right away with the Russians.
My opinion the order of plastics should have been.
French
Russians
Austrians
English
Prussians
All others
Cheers

Makes sense to me,
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice to see Perry or Victrix do Wurtembergers, Bavarians and Saxons in plastic although the 1 lot of figures I would not be able to resist would be 28mm plastic Russian in Kiwer and the late cavalry, artiller to go with them.
I can't really afford huge regiments of metal in 28mm and the weight for transport puts me off but if they were plastic (WOW!)
Cheers

Good luck with all those Napoleonics my friend, I started my 20mm WW2 last night by painting refugees?
ReplyDeleteThat's not a small effort, mate! Especially in 28mm. Wish you good luck.
ReplyDeleteIf you're interested in start playing with units as early as possible, I'd recommend "Sharp Practice" by TooFatLardies. Recently (re)discovered it myself and became instantly hooked (this time). It's meant for big skirmishes and can be used with unit basing as well. Maybe worth a try, until you get to play Lasalle?
Cheers

Thank you folks...I'll need the luck!
ReplyDeleteSG the basing for Lasalle isn't for skirmish play as I'll be doing 6 to a base(gives that massed look effect) and also I'm not that interested in skirmish Naps. However, I'll be watching your blog for the return of Sharpes practice.

Good luck with the new project. Plastics is definitely the way to go with a new project nowadays, they're too cheap not to!
ReplyDeleteIndeed Ray, plastics is the route to go for large army building in 28mm, however I will be mixing in metal from Perry & Foundry and so metal still does retain it's needed place. Actually, I'm pleased not everything is plastic as I far prefer metal, but like you said sometimes the cost would make it prohibitive with this being doubly the case with Naps!

Sorry, bad language skills on my side again, it seems.
ReplyDeleteI'd wanted to point out to you, that "Sharp Practice" can be played with units consisting of bases with several men on them. At least that's what I'm gonna do. And by calling it a "big skirmish" I mean B-I-G. Some scenarios call for several hundred figures.
Of course, if you want to go on, it would be only a first stopover. But you'd be able to use your first units even before you've amassed enough for tactical games.
Didn't want to talk you into something, just to explain my point.
Cheers

Hi SG,
ReplyDeleteNo, your language skills are very good, but rather my paying attention skills are not! I missed the part where you said "unit basing".
Thanks for addressing it and taking the time to make sure your point was understood.:-)
I might try it out(SP)as I've heard good things about Two Fat Lardies rule sets.
Cheers
Christopher
Okay, bothering you for the last time, I swear! ;-)
ReplyDeleteYou can watch a three-part introductory video to SP on Youtube:

And no, I'm not paid for advertising. :-D

No problem and thank you for the tip!:-)

Perry Napoleonics are amazing looking. I did French and British + Allies Waterloo armies a while back and LOVE them. I went with metals though and do not regret it. They seem so much more substantial to me over plastics.
ReplyDeleteI have little doubt most of us prefer metal over plastic, but the economics of doing huge metal armies in 28mm only can be just too expensive and so we compromise in mixing metal and plastic together.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Perry mini's are amazing!!

Hi
ReplyDelete28mm a BIG undertaking indeed.
Look forward to seeing your stuff
It is a big undertaking, but I won't be starting immediately as I have a couple projects needing some advance work before moving on and I need to do some research on uniforms before putting paint to brush, but I will be starting this year for sure.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Christopher
great background on this
