Switching gears a bit and doing some ACW additions with Berdan's Sharpshooters.I need some skirmish elements for my ACW collection and thought Berdan's would be a nice one as they have pretty cool uniforms.
I've seen different versions in books and models covering Berdan's uniform and I went with the one I felt was close to how they were so I discarded any blues or bright greens and went with Dark green, black, brown, tan and moss here and there. I did wonder if they perhaps used a darker leather for the canteen straps, but couldn't find enough evidence so went with the traditional off white. The paints I used were again mostly Vallejo and wargames Foundry as usual.
Creating skirmish bases are always the most fun, because you can do entertaining poses with interesting terrain like large rocks and tree trunks etc. The posing on these Perry sculpts are some of the best they have done imho so combining that with freedom on the basing made creating these guys are real blast!
I will also be doing some regular union skirmishers because Berdan or other US sharpshooters were only in a few places at a time with the majority being regimental skirmishers on the field. However, first I have some rebel skirmishers on the desk as I try and keep my collections running equal as I'm never sure what I'll need more of for each given scenario. Hopefully I get the next unit out a bit sooner then normal.
