1st Virgina Militia
First up is the 1st Virgina militia regiment.I decided to mix in a few continentals with the militia.I plan on doing this with all my militia units as this both looks nice and was historically accurate at this point in the war. Also, like I said in the opener I'll be using a wet theme to my bases as the day was described as such. The Don't Tread on me flag was invention of mine as I could not find any reference as will be the case with most of the American units. The defiant words and the rattlesnake was a common theme used by many different units during the course of the war.The unit is just beginning to panic and some of the men are starting to run.Hey,they are militia after all. They started off saying "Give me liberty or give me death!Freedom!",but looks like they are changing their minds to "I left my powder back at the house,I'll be back in a second!"

Virgina Rifles
The Virgina Rifles are my new addition to this thread. These Perry Riflemen are perhaps my favorite of their entire range.(obvious by number of pictures LoL) I hope I managed to do these wonderful mini's some justice. The base size and type of troop allowed me to add a bit more to the bases and was a lot of fun. I also added a little bit of an American Indian flavor here and there to belts, haversacks and bands as they often did.
The bases are even more wet then some others, but I like the effect.
Riflemen were feared by the English officers as many of these fellows were very good shots and would try and pick them off. They countered the riflemen by closing the distance as quick as possible with bayonets. The long rifle was incapable of having a bayonet attached and would put riflemen at a severe disadvantage at close quarters. This tactic worked until the Americans began supporting riflemen with regulars armed with bayonets.

2nd Virgina Militia
Here is my latest installment the 2nd Virgina Militia. The standard was similar to the one used at Bunker Hill, but I changed the color for my militia unit to use.I envisioned them adopting the banner, because they wish to emulate the performance of the troops at Bunker Hill.
I also enjoy adding causalities to my units as it gives a sense of action. The one with the two men carrying their wounded comrade on a rifle is one of my favorite Perry miniatures in this period.
They came out a bit bright, but hopefully they still pass the test.

Gaming the American War of Independence to include army concept
Opener
Hello Everyone,
One day I was looking through the Perry miniatures and decided to have a look at their AWI range and I really was impressed with what I saw!I then came upon Giles Blog and that was it and I was hooked!
I decided I wanted to try and model my army after a certain battle.Of course I wouldn't use my miniatures for only this battle, but I wanted a focal point.I chose the battle at Guilford Courthouse as it both offers a wide range of unit types to choose from, and it also allows for a bit of freedom to interpret my army painting scheme to include uniforms and basing.
I've started with the Americans first and will someday progress to the British. The nice thing is that I have quite a lot of leeway with the Americans as most the units are not well documented and therefore offer freedom of expression to interpret uniforms as I see fit with regards to the time frame of the engagement.
Another point is the day was described as cool and wet,but not freezing.Again.this is nice because I can use my base tones dark which I prefer and I added a personal touch with some pools of water.Perhaps the day wasn't as wet as I chose to depict, but I think the overall effect and artistic license I took paid off in the end without stretching things to much.(For me at least)
Cheers
